Sperrylite, in chalcopyrite

Broken Hammer Mine
Wisner Township (near Sudbury)
Ontario
Canada
Size: 4.3x2.9x2.5 cm
Largest crystal size: 4mm mm
This specimen is not available for sale.

A fairly sharp, cube octahedron of sperrylite is well exposed in a chalcopyrite vein that cuts across the top of this rock matrix. The crystasl is well formed but the faces are slightly contoured and pitted because of partial intergrowth with the chalcopyrite. As well, there is a chip out of the top of the crystal. Still, it is a very good example of this relatively rare mineral!
