Ignominiously dismissed from his post as a junior geologist at a large gold mine, Timothy starts a new job at a rundown gold mine in rural South Africa. The eccentric locals persuade the young geologist to join them in a series of unconventional and illegal schemes to reprieve the old mine. Timothy struggles through encounters with African wildlife, consultants, riots, the spirit world, explosions, government officials and a frustrating sex life in an attempt to find some real gold to save their tight knit community. This book, although crude in some parts, is entertaining and reflective of real mining life in that part of the world. It is great fun to read a book that incorporates mining lingo, slang and customs, accurately. There just are not many books that do! An entertaining read!
