This specimen has a matrix of very fine;y crystallized gold which has been, in turn, mostly covered by small quartz crystals and fine pyrite. The last phase of mineralization was a generous dose of fine, spongey gold that is sprinkled all over the top of the piece. Rich, unusual gold specimen!
