Mont Saint-Hilaire, Sabinaite

Sabinaite is one of the newer and more rare minerals at Mont Saint Hilaire. Usually the crystals are in single, micro crystals or small clusters. Many of these specimens are the richest that I've seen with large areas covered with sabinaite crystals easily seen with the eye. Excellent miniatures to small cabinet specimens!

  • The matrix for this specimen is a cluster of several slbite pseudomorphs after aegirine. There are a number of smaller calcite pseudos after shortite on the albites. Imprtantly, though, at one end is a rich area of gemmy, bladed, sharp, beigey sabinaite crystals associated with a druse of rutile crystals. Very nice and interesting specimen!

  • This is largely a siderite specimen with the siderite formed as a cast around some earlier, long-gone mineral. An epimorph! The epimorph is hollow with pure white albite crystals clustered inside. Importantly, there are excellent sabinaite crystals also on the specimen!

  • This specimen is mostly a jumble/cluster of glassy, well-formed, analcime crystals with a little siderite. There are, also, some sharp sabinaite crystals, including one of the nicest individual crystals I have seen! It lays flat on the analcime showing no point of attachment, since it is attached underneath. Beautiful!

  • Looks like a cluster of siderite crystals with some albit, but there are also some fairly largem sharp sabinaite crystals also in between the bigger crystals. I could have cleaned the siderite more but I was afraid of damaging the sabinaite crystals. Nice!
