Cobalt/Gowganda Area, Ontario -Silver Specimens, Page Three

Great silver specimens are getting more difficult to come by in the Cobalt Camp. I am constantly on the look-out for nice specimens and I frequent the area several times a year in search f them. Here are some more pieces that I've managed to locate!

  • A slice of high-grade silver-arsenides featuring mostly safflorite, a little nickeline and lots of bright native silver, associated with dolomite. I've arranged the photography lights to reflect off of the shiny silver in the saw cut so that you can see the texture. Nicely sliced. Unusual location. High Grade!

  • The other sawn side of #22482. Very high grade silver mineralization showing dendritic silver associated with heavy arsenide mineralization in carbonate vein matrix. Some of the silver is in place of the original crystallization and some has been re-mobilized out of the arsenides and replaced with other arsenides. Sawn on one side, rough on the other. Rich, instructive mineralization from the Cobalt silver mining camp. Looks great!

  • Very nice example of silver mineralization in Nipissing diabase. The specimen shows a vein of silver and arsenides cutting through diabase with re-mobilized silver streaking off in tension fracture veinlets perpendicular to the silver arsenide vein. Sawn on one side, rough on the other. Some of the vein silver shows good dendritic structure. Really nice piece!
