Ivigtut, Greenland, Thomsenolite, Ralstonite, etc.

The very unusual orebody at Ivigtut is, actually, an unusual alkaline intrusive that was miner at various times for cryolite and zinc. There are other alkaline intrusives in the area but, apparently, only Ivigtut was mineralized in this peculiarly rich way. The mine has been dormant for decades but some of these specimens are still available, on occasion.

They ARE very nice! There are some nice crystals of thomsenolite, as well!
