Antimony, Kermesite, Valentinite, Lac Nicolet Antimony Mine, South Ham, Wolfe Co., Quebec.

The Lac Nicolet antimony Mine was originally discovered in 1883 and was worked on an off during the late 19th century and then once again, explored in the 1970s. There are several types of mineralization but the veins of interest seem to be the quartz-antimony veins which in places are rich in native antimony, kermesite and valentinite. Here are some nice examples from this unusual deposit.

  • This is a small quartz vein section that shows quartz and antimony with stibnite and altration to valentinite and kermesite. The valentinite is present as crystal section seams in the antimony and the kemesite in what, presumably, were openings in the valentinite. Interesting!
