Mohawk Mine
Kweenaw Peninsula
Michigan, Canada

Item number: 27693

This specimen is an excellent example of a mineral assemblage unique to the Keweenaw Peninsula. It is called "snowflake mohawkite" and is composed of native copper, some crystallized, fine grained algodonite/domeykite and pure white quartz. Under magnification, it is easy to see native copper, much of it dendritic, embedded largely in the algodonite/domeykite mixture, although some is in the quartz. Rich, heavy copper-arsenic-rich specimen! Polished on the front top to best reveal the mineralogical texture.
