Orford Nickel Mine
St. Denis-de-Brompton
Quebec, Canada

Item number: 26323

A cavity in this diopside-grossular matrix has had the calcite dissolved out of it to reveal clusters of very light creamy diopside crystals. This mine was Canada's first nickel mine and operated for a short period in the late 1860s. There is some millerite and chromite ion the matrix. Nice looking piece.
