A rich specimen of galena in calcite/rock breccia matrix. This is from the site that was the location of the first recorded mine in Canada. French explorers visited the place as early as 1668 and the first recorded ore (anticipated lead-silver) was taken out in 1686. The mineralization was worked in earnest between 1890 and 1903 for lead but has been idle since. (Info from mindat.org). An excellent, representative specimen from this historic site.
