Mont Saint-Hilaire, Catapleiite

One of the best minerals to come from Mont Saint-Hilaire (in my humble opinion!). Here are excellent specimens with very well formed crystals of this zirconium silicate mineral.

  • A piece of albite-aegerine matrix has a couple of gemmy, very well formed crystals of colourless catapleiite formed on it. The crystals are high quality, gemmy, bevel-edged thick tabular crystals. They have had growth intererupted by other minerals at the edge in a couple of places but are perfect otherwise.

  • A 19mm glassy, well formed, thick-tabular catapleiite crystal sits on a matrix of rotten pegmatite, mostly composed of small albite and calcite crystals. The catapleiite has intergrown with small albite crystals on one side so is not so well defined as the rest. All the same, it is a very good specimen of this rare zirconium mineral.
