Danburite, Alto Chapare, Cochambamba, Bolivia

These are interesting specimens that consist of sharp crystals of danburite embedded in a matrix of fine grained gypsum, dolomite, feldspar, clay which are, in fact, the leftover remnants of a metamorphosed salt dome. The crystals are a lustrous grey colour and well formed, doubly terminated prisms. Unique!

  • This is a great looking specimen! A very ell-formed danburite crystal is nicely exposed on the front of this matrix which has a bluish tinge to it. The chisel-shaped crystal is lustrous and sharp. Very good!
