Tsumeb, Namibia, Azurite

The mines at Tsumeb have been the source of many of the finest azurite specimens produced anywhere. Lustrous, well formed and often partially altered to malachite. Here are some smaller, excellent, reasonable examples!

  • A well-terminated prism of deep blue azurite attached to a plate of white calcite crystals. A little damage on the back of the left side but looks very good from the front. Nice, reasonably priced example from this classic azurite locality.

  • This is an interesting piece! The matrix is a mixture of mostly coarse galena, cerussite and malachite. It is a heavy piece! On the fronto of this specimen is a cerussite vug lined with twinned cerussite crystals to 9mm on edge. Importantly, there are a couple of clusters of beautiful deep-blue azurite blades on the cerussites. As well, there are some mounds and tufts of dark green malachite beside some of the azurite. Very nice piece that displays well.

  • This is an interesting one! The crystals on this vertical plate vary and are: Malachite pseudomorphs after azurite, azurite crystals partially altered to malachite, beautiful, lustrous azurite crystals and azurite overgrowths on malachite pseudomorphs after azurite! A few small, white, cerussite crystals are scattered here and there. A wonderful study. Stands up perfectly for display!

  • This cluster of crystals grows through a calcareous, greenish looking material. Lots of sharp, intact azurite crystal terminations. Displays well.
